Trump’s shocking behavior

This week, Randi, Jaime, and Gabe discuss the shocking revelations about Donald Trump as multiple women have come forward to confirm his claim that he assaults people by grabbing their crotch and forcibly kissing them without consent.

We’re reminded of the first GOP primary debate in August 2015.

Hillary Clinton gets our That’s What She Said for her defense of Roe in her second debate with Trump:

I want a Supreme Court that will stick with Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose and I want a Supreme Court that will stick with marriage equality.

We’re also hearing from people opposing Hillary Clinton because she is a woman, like regular abortion clinic protester Dave Daubenmire, whose words attracted the attention of Right Wing Watch:

VP Debate wrap-up

Find us on iTunes: http://bit.ly/naralpodcast

This week, Randi, Jaime, and Gabe discuss this week’s vice presidential debate. Tim Kaine made many excellent points, including some terrific answers on abortion.

We support Roe v. Wade. We support the constitutional right of American women to consult their own conscience, their own supportive partner, their own minister, but then make their own decision about pregnancy. That’s something we trust American women to do that.

Mike Pence gets the Walk of Shame for denying many statements both he and Donald Trump has made, including this jem:

Donald Trump and I would never support legislation that punished women who made the heartbreaking choice to end a pregnancy.

In the Cleveland Plain Dealer, former state Rep. Ed Jerse complained about how difficult it is to be a “pro-life” Democrat. After a lengthy discussion of the hardship of politicians, he reluctantly admits that education and contraception might be benefits of a Clinton/Kaine administration. We asked why education and contraception are the very solutions that the pro-life movement repeatedly ignore.

Secretary Clinton got a boost this week, as she was endorsed by LeBron James.

I also tell all my kids how important it is that they give back to the community. Because if basketball has taught me anything, it’s that no one achieves greatness alone. And it takes everyone working together to create real change.

When I look at this year’s presidential race, it’s clear which candidate believes the same thing. Only one person running truly understands the struggles of an Akron child born into poverty. And when I think about the kinds of policies and ideas the kids in my foundation need from our government, the choice is clear.

That candidate is Hillary Clinton.

This week, Randi, Jaime, and Gabe discuss this week’s presidential debate. Hillary Clinton destroyed Donald Trump in the debate as he bloviated through 90 minutes on Monday night. Secretary Clinton got the That’s What She Said of the week for turning a criticism from Trump into a win:

I think Donald just criticized me for preparing for this debate. And yes, I did. And you know what else I prepared for? I prepared to be president.

Donald gets the Walk of Shame for his criticism of former Miss Universe Alicia Machado. She was mentioned during the debate, and the Clinton campaign made sure everyone understood how he treated her.

Throughout the week, Donald continued to criticize her and Secretary Clinton, including a 5 a.m. rant on Twitter.

Ohio Rep. Kathleen Clyde celebrated a major court victor this week:

Last week, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a U.S. District Court decision and ordered Secretary Husted to stop purging voters for not voting.

On this National Voter Registration Day, we’re elated to say that Ohio voters will no longer have to worry that Secretary Husted will randomly select them to be unregistered simply because they don’t vote in every single election,” said Rep. Clyde. “This is a landmark victory for voters, one that is so huge it has the capability of changing the election outcome in Ohio.

New initiative to ban all abortions in Ohio

Find us on iTunes: http://bit.ly/naralpodcast

This week, Randi, Jaime, and Gabe discuss yesterday’s Commander in Chief Forum, sponsored by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Association (IAVA.org). Hillary Clinton expressed urgency in assisting active-duty and veteran members of the military to reduce rates of sexual assault and suicide. Donald Trump said that rape in the military was due to men and women serving together in uniform.

In Ohio news, a new ballot initiative was filed with the Ohio Attorney General’s office. The initiative language states the purpose: “To prohibit abortion of all unborn human beings, without exception, and classifying it as aggravated murder in the State of Ohio.”

NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland said:

The proposed law would punish women, plain and simple. If passed, women and doctors would be imprisoned for any abortion, even one to save a woman’s life. Also, the language would block prescription birth control, emergency contraception, IUDs, and could impact access to in-vitro fertilization.

The so-called ‘Heartbeat Bill’ was unconstitutional. Multiple anti-abortion restrictions signed by John Kasich have been ruled unconstitutional. When will anti-abortion zealots stop trying to punish women?

The filling is the very first steps in the ballot initiative process, when the AG’s office and ballot board reviews petitions for basic legal requirements. If approved, petition solicitors can begin to collect the 300,000 valid signatures they will need to qualify for the ballot. They could complete the task in time for the 2017 election, but signatures do not expire, so this proposal could go to voters in any future year.

One theory is that, if passed, this law would give President Donald Trump a test case to overturn Roe v. Wade after appointing one or more US Supreme Court justices.

On Sept. 10th, abortion rights supporters will gather in Cleveland for a night of music, comedy, and entertainment.

All Access will feature performances from Grammy-nominated artist Sia, standup from Saturday Night Live cast member and Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones, and Grammy award-winning singer Natalia Lafourcade, with Comedy Central’s Jessica Williams as the host.

This week, Sia released her new video, The Greatest. The song and video also are a haunting and emotional tribute to the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando that killed 49 members of the local LGBT community.

The return of NARAL’s The Morning After!

Find us on iTunes: http://bit.ly/naralpodcast

We’re back! After a summer hiatus, we’re thrilled to return to NARAL’s The Morning After, a weekly podcast to discuss sexual politics in Ohio and across the country.

This week, Randi, Jaime, and Gabe discuss Donald Trump and his hate-filled rant that followed a trip to Mexico. His anti-immigrant rage reached epic proportions last night. We’re reminded that his candidacy is endorsed by US Senator Rob Portman and Ohio Right to Life.

During our summer break, three major events occured:

  1. Toledo’s only remaining abortion clinic won a victory in court that will keep their doors open.
  2. Planned Parenthood won a victory in court to block John Kasich’s effort to strip them of critical state funds.
  3. A new study in PLOS Medicine showed that Ohio abortion restrictions actually harmed women from 2011 to 2016.

Ohio Right to Life President Mike Gonidakis received this week’s Walk of Shame for his criticism of Judge Michael R. Barrett of the U.S. District Court in Cincinnati. Gonidakis told the Columbus Dispatch:

The federal judge has no legal authority to tell a state how to spend its resources. I suggest he do us all a favor and step down from the bench and run for the legislature. Then he can legally craft policy in Ohio. Of course he won’t, though, because he would never be elected.

This criticism drew a quick response from Ohio groups calling for his resignation as president of the State Medical Board.

Our That’s What She Said of the week goes to Toledo Blade columnist Marilou Johanek. Her op-ed called for Gonidakis to resign from the board.

The jig is up. Mr. Gonidakis, it is painfully clear that you can’t pursue an anti-abortion crusade and be a neutral public arbitrator of disputes involving licensed abortion providers. You told an audience in northeast Ohio on May 27, 2011, that “We’re going after Planned Parenthood” and “We’re gonna close that late-term abortion clinic down in Dayton.”

You sent personal asides, attached to your RTL emails on the Dayton clinic that said, “Sandy [Theis, Executive Director of ProgressOhio] … will you finally repudiate the industry for which you so proudly support? So much for ‘women’s health.’ So sad.”

So prejudicial. And so unacceptable for a state medical board president. Mr. Gonidakis has got to go.

You can email Gov. John Kasich and demand he remove Gonidakis from the State Medical Board.

Send Your Email Now.

Podcast: Planned Parenthood sues Ohio!

This week, Randi, and Gabe discuss Planned Parenthood‘s lawsuit against the state of Ohio. When John Kasich defunded Planned Parenthood this February, he violated their right to due process and free speech.

Jaime Miracle isn’t on today’s episode because she is in Washington DC to advocate for the #ActForWomen. The federal legislation will reverse the damage done by restrictions on abortion providers enacted by multiple states. Restrictions that the bill will block include Ohio’s forced ultrasound requirement and the 24 hour waiting period.

With all others out of the race, Donald Trump claims the Republican nomination. He celebrated with a taco bowl and a blatant pander to Latinos.

The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner was hilarious as the president didn’t pull any punches in mocking the media and everyone running for president in 2016.

If anyone was ignored by President Obama, keynote speaker Larry Wilmore made sure to crack a joke at their expense. Feelings were hurt.

In Ohio, a Cincinnati-area state legislator will propose a bill to discriminate against transgender people and their right to public restrooms. The legislation specifically forbids public restrooms from being unisex and available to any individual.
