NARAL’s The Morning After is a production of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio.

This week, Kelley, Jaime, and Elaina discuss the Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court. NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio opposes the nomination and is working to help members of the US Senate hear from Americans who also do not support this pick. With your help, we can defeat him like failed nominees Robert Bork and Harriet Miers.

You can send an email to Sen. Sherrod Brown to thank him for standing for reproductive rights, including access to safe and legal abortion care, using this form.

Help build a pro-choice Ohio. Every day, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio fights to protect access to the full range of reproductive health care options—including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and safe & legal abortion care. We educate the public about the real threat to women’s healthcare posed by anti-choice legislation and policies. We mobilize pro-choice Ohioans to take political action to defend reproductive rights. And we are the voice for Ohio’s abortion clinics, helping them navigate the increasingly hostile climate created by extremist groups. But we need your help. This week, Gabe called Kellie in Cleveland to discuss the next nomination to the US Supreme Court. With the resignation of Justice Anthony Kennedy, Donald Trump will get a second appointment to the high court, which will change SCOTUS for a generation.

Complete this form to thank Sen. Sherrod Brown for standing up for reproductive health care, including access to safe and legal abortion. His voice is critical during the appointment confirmation process.

You can also call the US Senate to reach Sen. Rob Portman’s office and demand he reject anti-choice nominees: 1-844-515-2798

This past weekend, Gabe was joined by Joyelle Johnson (Late Night with Seth Meyers) and Sarah Hartshorne (America’s Next Top Model) from Lady Parts Justice League! The team of comedians from LPJL was in town as a part of their Vagical Mystery Tour. They did an abortion speak-out panel at ComFest and raised money for abortion rights work with a hilarious comedy show at Ace of Cups.

Lady Parts Justice League is the brain-child of Lizz Winstead, who co-founded The Daily Show and Air America Radio. They travel from state to state visiting independent abortion clinics, doing service projects to help clinic providers, and throwing parties for clinic staff. Before visiting Columbus, they swung through Toledo to boost the clinic escorts from Capital Care!

LPJL in Toledo

We love LPJL’s amazing videos they create to shed light on attacks on abortion rights. They bring attention to state-level bills in a way that no other organization does. Our favorite is their outstanding inFormation video, which Joyelle produced and Sarah wrote on.

Here’s a special Monday edition of the podcast, straight from ComFest! On Saturday, Stephanie Craddock Sherwood from Women Have Options / Ohio led an abortion speakout panel on the Solar Stage. After inviting women to share their abortion stories, she handed the mic over to Lizz Winstead from Lady Parts Justice League! Lizz interviewed a local abortion provider, Stephanie, and NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio’s very own Hannah Servedio!

Immigration and Infant Mortality

NARAL’s The Morning After is a production of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio.

listen-on-apple-podcasts

This week, Kelley, Jaime, and Gabe discuss the appeal filed by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine challenging the ruling from the Sixth-Circuit Court of Appeals. The court recently blocked John Kasich’s 2016 plan to defund Planned Parenthood.

While DeWine is attacking women’s health providers, Rich Cordray is listening to non-profit initiatives working to reduce infant mortality by offering pre- and postnatal support. ROOTT and Moms2B were two specific groups included in a community roundtable at the Franklin County Public Health headquarters. After that event, Cordray said extra resources are needed to address the problem and can only come from Medicaid expansion. Read Dispatch coverage.

Immigration continues to dominate the headlines, but “pro-life” groups refuse to help separated families.

“You don’t look like a legislator.”

NARAL’s The Morning After is a production of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio.

This week, Kelley, Vashitta, and Gabe discuss Rep. Emilia Sykes being stopped and questioned when trying to enter the Ohio Statehouse. Building security told her “You don’t look like a legislator.” Rep. Sykes is one of only nine Black women in the Ohio General Assembly, so we found it both shocking and insulting that she would not be identifiable by the highway patrol guards.

This week, Kelley, Vashitta, and Gabe discuss new Prevention First legislation introduced in the Ohio House by Rep. Nickie Antonio and Rep. Michelle Lepore-Hagan.  This bill includes creating comprehensive sexual health and sexually transmitted infection education in schools, providing certain hospital and pregnancy prevention services for victims of sexual assault, and coverage for prescription contraceptive drugs and devices.

In other news, the Campaign for Accountability, a nonpartisan, nonprofit watchdog group focused on public accountability, called on Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine to investigate two crisis pregnancy centers, Elizabeth’s New Life Center and Heartbeat of Toledo, for engaging in deceptive business practices in violation of Ohio’s Consumer Sales Protection Act.
