This week, Randi, Jaime, and Gabe talk about the Ohio primary. Both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders were in Columbus the Sunday before Ohio’s primary election. They each addressed the Ohio Democratic Party and appeared on CNN from a town hall at The Ohio State University.
During Tuesday’s primary election day, Hillary overwhelmingly carries Ohio, winning 80 of 88 counties. Her wins in Ohio, Illinois, Florida, Missouri, and North Carolina added to her delegate margin for the nomination.
With so much at stake in the next several years, we need more than a worthy ally in the White House. We need a champion with a demonstrated record of fighting for reproductive freedom and economic justice — and that champion is Hillary Clinton.
Hillary has been fighting for children, for women, and for working families for her entire life. She supports paid family leave, equal pay and access to contraception and abortion. She has what it takes to fight anti-choice attacks on reproductive freedom, and we can count on her to be vocal about the kinds of policies we need so women to let control their own destinies.
Also winning in Ohio’s primary was former Governor Ted Strickland. Strickland will oppose Sen. Rob Portman in November.
Sen. Rob Portman made headlines later this week as he said he will not seek a hearing to confirm President Obama‘s appointment for the Supreme Court, Judge Merrick Garland.
In light of Senate Republicans’ continued refusal to do their jobs and consider the nomination of Judge Garland, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement:
“This year, monumental cases will be decided by the Court on abortion access specifically and reproductive rights generally. Judge Garland does not have a public record on reproductive rights and Senate Republicans’ obstruction denies all of us our right to know where this nominee stands on core constitutional questions of women’s privacy, dignity, and equality. With seven in ten Americans supporting legal access to abortion, we have a right to know where our justices stand on this important issue. It’s time for Republicans to stop putting their party’s interests ahead of our nation’s.”
NARAL’s The Morning After is a production of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio.
Help build a pro-choice Ohio. Every day, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio fights to protect access to the full range of reproductive health care options—including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and safe & legal abortion care. We educate the public about the real threat to women’s healthcare posed by anti-choice legislation and policies. We mobilize pro-choice Ohioans to take political action to defend reproductive rights. And we are the voice for Ohio’s abortion clinics, helping them navigate the increasingly hostile climate created by extremist groups. But we need your help.
